When shoppers start a conversation with your brand, AI Agent can make recommendations to help them find and buy products from your store’s website.

You can control which products AI Agent recommends by choosing to promote or exclude products listed in your Shopify store’s catalog.

In this article you’ll learn how to:

• Select products for AI Agent to promote
• Exclude products from being recommended

Requirements

• You must have an AI Agent subscription
  
  
  • If you subscribed to AI Agent prior to July 16, 2025, you may need to upgrade your subscription to access Shopping Assistant features
• You must have a Shopify store connected to Gorgias

Select products for AI Agent to promote

AI Agent can recommend any product from your store's catalog. If you want to recommend a specific product to shoppers more than other products, you can promote it so that AI Agent prioritizes showing it to shoppers who visit your store.

You can select specific products from your catalog for AI Agent to promote, or you can promote an entire category of products by selecting tags, vendors or collections.

1. From the main menu, go to AI Agent > Shopping Assistant.
   
   
   • If you have more than one Shopify store connected to Gorgias, click on the dropdown at the top of the AI Agent menu to select a store.
2. Select the Product Recommendations tab.
3. Next to Promote products, click Set Up.
4. Click Select Products to promote individual products, or promote a category of products by selecting tags, vendors or collections.
5. Select the products, tags vendors or collections that you want to promote.
6. Click Save Changes to finish.

Exclude products from being recommended

When you exclude a product, AI Agent won’t recommend the product to shoppers who visit your store, even if the product closely matches their buying intent.

If a shopper asks specific questions about an excluded product, AI Agent can still answer questions about it based on the information from the product’s description page and your website.

You can select specific products for AI Agent to exclude, or exclude an entire category of products selecting by tags, vendors or collections.

1. From the main menu, go to AI Agent > Shopping Assistant.
   
   
   • If you have more than one Shopify store connected to Gorgias, click on the dropdown at the top of the AI Agent menu to select a store.
2. Click the Product Recommendations tab.
3. Next to Exclude products, click Set Up.
4. Click Select Products to exclude individual products, or exclude a category of products by selecting tags, vendors or collections.
5. Select the products, tags or vendors that you want to exclude.
6. Click Save Changes to finish.

Automatically excluded products

Some products are automatically excluded from being recommended by AI Agent. These include:

• Products that are unpublished
• Products with a status of Draft or Archived
• Products without images

Block products from being mentioned

If you want to prevent AI Agent from mentioning a product altogether, you can add gorgias_do_not_recommend as a product tag in Shopify.

When you add this tag to a product, AI Agent fully ignores the product as part of your store catalog.

1. Go to your products in Shopify.
2. Select a product that you want to exclude.
3. Under “product organization”, add gorgias_do_not_recommend as a tag.
4. Click Save to finish.
