Control which products Shopping Assistant recommendsUpdated 3 days ago

Shopping Assistant can recommend any product from your Shopify catalog. By default, it selects recommendations based on what it knows about the shopper — their browsing activity, cart contents, and buying intent.

If there are products you want to prioritize or products you never want recommended, you can adjust this behavior directly in Gorgias.

• Block products from being mentioned at all

Promote products you want Shopping Assistant to prioritize

Shopping Assistant can recommend any product in your catalog. Promoting a product signals that you want it to appear more often — Shopping Assistant will prioritize it for shoppers whose interests and intent are a good match.

You can promote individual products, or an entire category of products using Shopify tags, vendors, or collections.

1. From the main menu, go to AI Agent, then click Shopping Assistant.
   
   
   • If you have more than 1 Shopify store connected to Gorgias, use the dropdown at the top of the AI Agent menu to select a store.
2. Select the Product recommendations tab.
3. Next to Promote products, click Set up. If you've done this before, click Edit instead.
4. Click Select products to promote individual products, or use tags, vendors, or collections to promote a category.
5. Select the products, tags, vendors, or collections you want to promote.
6. Click Save changes.

Exclude products from recommendations

When you exclude a product, Shopping Assistant won't proactively recommend it — even if it matches the shopper's interests. If a shopper asks a direct question about an excluded product, Shopping Assistant can still answer based on the product's description and your store website.

You can exclude individual products, or an entire category using Shopify tags, vendors, or collections.

1. From the main menu, go to AI Agent, then click Shopping Assistant.
   
   
   • If you have more than 1 Shopify store connected to Gorgias, use the dropdown at the top of the AI Agent menu to select a store.
2. Select the Product recommendations tab.
3. Next to Exclude products, click Set up. If you've done this before, click Edit instead.
4. Click Select products to exclude individual products, or use tags, vendors, or collections to exclude a category.
5. Select the products, tags, vendors, or collections you want to exclude.
6. Click Save changes.

Products excluded automatically

Some products are excluded from recommendations automatically, regardless of your settings:

• Products that are unpublished
• Products with a status of Draft or Archived
• Products without images

Block products from being mentioned at all

Excluding a product prevents Shopping Assistant from recommending it, but Shopping Assistant can still answer questions about it if a shopper asks. If you want Shopping Assistant to fully ignore a product — including when asked directly — you can add a Shopify tag to block it entirely.

1. Go to your products in Shopify.
2. Select the product you want to block.
3. Under Product organization, add gorgias_do_not_recommend as a tag.
4. Click Save.

Shopping Assistant will ignore this product entirely, including from its product knowledge.
