Use Convert campaigns to recommend products to shoppersUpdated 2 days ago
When a shopper comes to your ecommerce store, you can use Convert campaigns to recommend products and proactively create opportunities for upsell or cross-sell. Use the Insert Shopify product option when writing your campaign message to showcase items with a visual product card.
As an example, brands might use campaigns with a recommended product to point shoppers to discounted bundles, matching sets, or highlight small items that help shoppers reach your free shipping threshold.
See our Convert Campaign Library to explore examples of campaigns from successful brands.

- Alternatively, select an existing campaign to edit its message

Use AI to recommend products
Note: AI product recommendations cannot be used with headless Shopify stores
Rather than manually curate product recommendations in a campaign, you can also use AI to dynamically suggest products to shoppers based on their browsing or purchase history. This option is especially helpful for brands with large product catalogues.
Dynamic product recommendation automates the work of suggesting products while still providing a personalized experience to shoppers.
- Go to Convert → Campaigns to create a new campaign
- Alternatively, select an existing campaign to edit its message
- Open the Write your message section
- Select Insert Shopify Product from the toolbar
- Select Product Recommendation
- Choose how you would like AI to recommend products
Here’s a breakdown of the options you can choose to recommend products with AI:
How AI recommendations products | Description |
Similar browsed products | Recommends similar products based on shoppers’ browsing history |
Similar purchased products | Recommends products based on shoppers’ recent purchases |
Alternatives for out of stock products | Recommends alternatives to out of stock products based on the item's title and description |
New arrivals | Recommends the products most recently added to your Shopify store |
FAQs
How does the AI identify “similar products”?
The AI uses product titles and descriptions as input to identify similarities and provide relevant recommendations to shoppers (excluding products that the shopper has recently viewed, is currently viewing, or has already added to their cart).
The same process occurs when a shopper views an out-of-stock product. The AI uses the product title and description of the out-of-stock product as the basis to recommend an alternative.
Is it possible to curate or filter out specific products/collections from being recommended?
No, currently there is no option to override which products the AI recommends.
How quickly does the AI display recommendations?
There may be a slight delay depending on how much context the AI has to form an answer (between 0.5 – 4 seconds). To create a smoother experience, we’ve kept campaigns hidden while the AI generates a message.
What happens if a shopper has no order history?
If the shopper has not made any purchases at your store, the AI will display your most recently added products as a fallback. In the event your latest products are also out-of-stock, then the campaign will not be displayed.
Can I preview the AI’s recommendations before launching a campaign?
No. The AI’s recommendations are unique to each shopper, similar to how search results from Google may vary depending on your browsing history. As a result, a static preview is not possible.
What happens if there is an error and the AI fails to generate a recommendation?
If the AI encounters an error and fails to generate a recommendation, we will instead recommend the newest products in your store (unless your newest products are also out of stock).
