AI Agent Actions: manage Recharge subscriptionsUpdated 6 days ago
Recharge is a Shopify app that helps you sell and manage subscription offerings on your store.
When you set up an action for Recharge, AI Agent can fully resolve requests from shoppers who want to make changes to their current subscription, like skipping a shipment, pausing or cancelling it, updating billing details, or creating a discount code.
Available actions for Recharge
Cancel or pause a subscription
Cancel subscription → this action allows AI Agent to cancel a shopper's recurring subscription with your store.
- When a shopper asks to cancel a subscription, AI Agent checks in Recharge whether they have a single or multiple subscriptions.
- If the shopper has multiple subscriptions, AI Agent hands over the ticket to your team to process the cancellation.
- If the shopper has a single subscription, AI Agent collects the reasons for cancellation from the shopper.
- AI Agent cancels the subscription and sends a confirmation email to the shopper.
- When a shopper asks to cancel a subscription, AI Agent checks in Recharge whether they have a single or multiple subscriptions.
Pause subscription → this action lets AI Agent pause a shopper's subscription instead of cancelling it, often offered as a retention alternative. Recharge doesn't have a dedicated pause state, so AI Agent simulates this by pushing the subscription's next charge out to a resume date the shopper chooses.
- AI Agent asks the shopper when they'd like their subscription to resume, then updates the next charge date in Recharge.
- You can pick from two versions of this action: Pause subscription looks up the shopper's subscriptions itself and only works if they have a single active one. Pause selected subscription is the newer version — it can pause any subscription, but only once the correct one has already been identified earlier in the conversation (for example, by List active subscriptions, below).
Change billing frequency and shipments
Skip next subscription shipment → this action allows AI Agent to skip an upcoming order for an ongoing subscription. The shopper will not be charged for the skipped order.
- If the shopper has a single subscription in Recharge, AI Agent processes the request and sends a confirmation email to the shopper.
- Note: a shipment can only be skipped before the order is created. If a shopper does not want to receive an order that has already been created (but has not yet shipped), then the correct action for AI Agent is to Cancel order in Shopify.
Change subscription frequency → this action lets AI Agent change how often a subscription ships and is charged (for example, moving from every 3 weeks to every 4 weeks).
- AI Agent asks the shopper for the new frequency and unit (day, week, or month), then updates the delivery and charge interval in Recharge to match.
Change charge date → this action lets AI Agent move a shopper's next subscription charge to a specific date they choose, rather than skipping it or pausing indefinitely.
- AI Agent confirms the new date with the shopper before making the change.
Look up and update subscription details
Get subscription details → a read-only action that lets AI Agent look up a shopper's current subscription and share its product, price, next charge date, billing frequency, and status. This is useful when a shopper asks what they're subscribed to or when their next order ships.
- Doesn't change anything in Recharge.
List active subscriptions → a read-only action that lets AI Agent list all of a shopper's active Recharge subscriptions, rather than just one. Useful when a shopper has more than one, to help identify which one they mean before another action (like Pause selected subscription) acts on it.
- Doesn't change anything in Recharge.
Update subscription shipping address → this action lets AI Agent update the shipping address on a shopper's subscription, for example after they've moved.
- AI Agent collects the new address from the shopper (street, city, state/province, zip, and country) and confirms the change with them before updating Recharge.
- Updates future shipments only. It doesn't change the address on an order that's already been created.
Create a discount code
Create discount code → this action lets AI Agent generate a new Recharge discount code using values you set when configuring the action (for example, an amount and discount type), rather than applying a code that already exists.
- AI Agent doesn't need any information from the shopper to run this action. The code details are set by you in advance.
Connecting AI Agent to Recharge
So long as you already have Gorgias connected to Recharge, there are no additional steps to start using actions for Recharge with AI Agent.
To get started, open your AI Agent settings to see available actions from Recharge or create your own. Add actions from Recharge to a skill so AI Agent can use them. For example, you may want to use Recharge actions as part of your skill's instructions for how to handle conversations about subscriptions (the skill should correspond to tickets with intents like subscription:cancel or subscription:information).
- Click the dropdown menu in the top-left corner, then select AI Agent.
- Click Actions to see all available actions in your library.
- Change the filter to All, or select Add filter to filter the list by App / Recharge.
- Click the Add in dropdown menu next to an action, then select Skills. Add the action to a skill that handles subscriptions so AI Agent knows when and how to use it.
Limitations
- Most Recharge actions only run if the shopper has a single active subscription. If a shopper has more than one, AI Agent hands over the ticket for your team to complete manually. List active subscriptions and Pause selected subscription are exceptions (see the notes above).
