If you’re in the process of verifying your email domain and find yourself stuck, read on for frequently asked questions and troubleshooting tips.
FAQ
I already verified my email in another 3rd party app (Klaviyo, Omnisend, etc). Do I need to do it in Gorgias?
Yes. Every third-party app that you use has its own set of records that need to be added to your Domain Registrar’s DNS. Verifying your domain gives the app permission to send emails on your behalf and ensures reliable email delivery, so you’ll want to verify your domain in any app that sends email for you, including Gorgias.
I use the direct email integration and I don't send more than 5,000 emails per day. Do I still need to verify the domain?
We strongly recommend it. Verifying your domain improves your email deliverability, and ensures you’re meeting Email Service Providers (like Google and Microsoft) authentication requirements.
In the event that an email fails to send, Gorgias can use our Email Service Providers as a fallback method when your domain is verified. This helps to ensure emails reach your customers, and happens automatically — no additional action is required from you to resend the email.
I have multiple email addresses. Do I need to verify all of them?
Email addresses are verified at the domain level. If you have multiple email addresses with a matching domain (for example, [email protected], [email protected]), you’ll only need to verify one, and the others will be automatically verified.
If your email addresses end differently (for example, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]), then you’ll need to verify each domain.
Troubleshooting
My domain verification failed
If you’ve waited the full 72 hour verification period and your domains in Gorgias haven’t passed the verification check, verify the following:
- Ensure that there are no spaces at the beginning or end of the values you added to your DNS records. Some registrars are sensitive to these extra characters and they will need to be removed.
- Ensure you added every value listed in Gorgias. You should have a TXT (DMARC) record and three CNAME records in your DNS settings.
- Double check that you’ve selected the correct type (either TXT or CNAME) for each record.
- Use this public tools to check if your record is live.:
- MXToolbox DKIM Lookup
Selector: gor (or gor2)
Domain: yourdomain.com
- MXToolbox DKIM Lookup
If the record isn’t live and 72 hours have passed since you added the record, contact our support team for further help.
I verified my domain, but I’m still having email delivery issues
In addition to verifying your domain, it’s important to add a DMARC record to your DNS, especially if you send a high volume of emails. When creating the DMARC record, ensure that your policy (the value after p=) is either p=quarantine or p=reject.
