Add Shopify metafields to GorgiasUpdated 10 days ago

You can bring context from Shopify into Gorgias by importing your most relevant metafields into your helpdesk. Once imported, metadata will appear in customer profiles and the Shopify widget in your ticket sidebar, and they can be used as a variable in macro reply text.

Note: Previously, we automatically displayed all metafields in the customer profile and ticket sidebar. To give you the ability to use metafield variables across Gorgias features, like in macros and rules (coming soon), you must now manually add the Shopify metafields you’d like to see in Gorgias.

Requirements

  • Available on all Helpdesk plans with a connected Shopify store
  • Admins and the Helpdesk Owner can import Shopify metafields
  • All roles can view imported metafields

Add metafields from Shopify

Shopify metafields allow you to store information about your products, orders, and customers beyond what's captured by Shopify’s standard fields. For example, you might use metafields to keep notes on a customer’s delivery preferences, or the package dimensions from a recent order. Bringing metafields into Gorgias allows your agents to review the custom Shopify data they need to answer customer tickets, without needing to switch between apps.

Note: Metafield data will only be displayed in Gorgias for orders and customers that are created or updated after you've imported them from Shopify. Orders created before the metafield was imported

Add metafields to Gorgias

For each store you've connected to Gorgias, you can import up to 10 Shopify metafields to Gorgias from each of the the Customers, Orders, and Draft orders categories. Once imported, you can use metafields in macros, and choose whether they appear in customer profiles and the Shopify widget next to ticket conversations.

  1. From your helpdesk, click the  Settings icon in the bottom-left corner.
  2. In the menu, locate Account, then select Store Management.
  3. Select your store from the list, then click the Shopify Metafields tab.
  4. Click + Import.
  5. Select a metafields category from the list.
  6. Click the box next to the metafields you’d like to import, then click Continue.
  7. Select another category to add more metafields, or click Import.
Note: You can select from up to 200 of your Shopify metafields when choosing which ones you’d like to import. If a metafield isn't listed in Gorgias, reduce the number of metafields you have in Shopify, then try importing again.

Manage existing metafields

Once imported, your metafields will be listed in the Shopify Metafields tab, with the most recently added listed first. From the list, you can filter the metafields by category or type, sort them alphabetically, remove them from Gorgias, or hide them to prevent them from appearing in customer profiles or in the sidebar.

Remove metafields

You can remove an existing metafield to make space for a new one when you’ve reached the maximum number of metafields, or to clear out older data that you’re no longer using. When you remove a metafield from Gorgias, the metafield and its data will no longer be pulled into Gorgias, and it will no longer appear in customer profiles or the Shopify widget. If you used the metafield in a macro reply, the macro won’t be disabled, but the variable text will not appear in the reply text. Removing a metafield from Gorgias will not impact your Shopify data.

  1. From your helpdesk, click the  Settings icon in the bottom-left corner.
  2. In the menu, locate Account, then select Store Management.
  3. Select your store from the list, then click the Shopify Metafields tab.
  4. Click the  remove icon next to the metafield in the table, then click Remove.

Hide metafields

Hidden metafields can still be used in macros, but won’t appear in the customer profile or Shopify widget. To hide a metafield, follow the steps below:

  1. From your helpdesk, click the  Settings icon in the bottom-left corner.
  2. In the menu, locate Account, then select Store Management.
  3. Select your store from the list, then click the Shopify Metafields tab.
  4. Click the  eye icon next to a metafield in the table to hide it. Click the icon again to show it.
